The Scottish Blitz Open Championship is an international chess tournament held in Edinburgh. The current Scottish Blitz Champion is Fide-Master Neil Berry (Edinburgh).
The aim of the one-day event is to encourage chess in Scotland. There may be top Grandmasters playing for prizes… But it’s important to not forget that Blitz is all about fun!

Is it for juniors?
Yes. We are hoping to encourage as many juniors to play in the event as possible. As such, juniors will receive a discounted entry.
Surgeons’ Hall is located in central Edinburgh. It is a five minute walk away from Waverley Train Station and ten minutes from Edinburgh Bus Station. If travelling by car, we recommend checking parking beforehand.
The 2nd Scottish Blitz Championship will be held at Surgeons’ Hall, Edinburgh, on Saturday 15th June from 9:00am until 5:00pm. Entry fees: Adult £20 and Student/Junior(U18) £10. Please note the revised adult entry fee.
The event will be Fide Blitz rated with official Fide blitz rules applying. The time control will be 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment. There will be 13 rounds with a tentative time schedule detailed below:
Round 1 9:15-9:40am
Round 2 9:40-10:05am
Round 3 10:05-10:30am
Morning Break 10:30-11:00am
Round 4 11:00-11:25am
Round 5 11:25-11:50am
Round 6 11:50-12:15pm
Round 7 13:15-13:40pm
Round 8 13:40-14:05pm

Round 10 14:30-14:55pm

a) Eligiblity for grading prizes will be determined by the player’s assigned rating. (i.e. with FIDE blitz rating taking priority over CS grade)
b) The tournament organiser reserves the right to alter prize money as all prizes quoted are based on a satisfactory number of entries.
c) Should a player miss registration, then they will receive a half point bye for round 1.
d) The arbiter’s decision is final on matters relating to play.
e) The Scottish Blitz Champion title will be awarded to the highest placed Scottish player. In the event of a tie, the Champion will be decided by i) Head to Head ii) Highest TPR.
